Elena works at an app company where the big annual research program already runs on Qualtrics. Between those studies, product managers keep asking her small questions, such as which of three onboarding concepts users prefer, and they want an answer in days. She needs data she can defend, but she does not always need a full research platform to get it, so she wants to know when Qualtrics is worth it and when something lighter will do. Every Qualtrics fact on this page comes from Qualtrics' own support and pricing pages, checked on 6 November 2026 and listed under Sources.

Two different kinds of tool
Qualtrics is a research platform with a deep set of methods, and it shows in the details. Branch logic in its survey flow can route respondents on their answers, embedded data, device type, quotas or GeoIP location, and its question types guide runs from Rank Order and Constant Sum to Heat Map and Tree Testing. Access is arranged with Qualtrics directly, since its pricing page asks you to request pricing or a demo.
PingPolls is a self-serve form builder with a narrower focus. You sign up, describe the study to the AI form builder or build it by hand, and share a link, an embed or a QR code the same day. The plans and pricing guide lists what each plan includes, and the Free plan already has logic and custom fields. That difference in scope is the real choice on this page, so the sections below show where each one earns its place.
Measuring preference
When a product manager asks which concept users prefer, both tools can answer, in different ways. Qualtrics offers MaxDiff, where respondents pick the best and worst item from small sets and the analysis returns utilities and preference shares, and conjoint projects, which let respondents choose between packages and are an additional purchase.
PingPolls uses preference ranking. Respondents compare two options at a time, pairs that earlier picks already settle are skipped, a progress bar keeps them oriented, and you get a ranked list with scores for up to 10 options. It is a simpler method than MaxDiff or conjoint, and for three onboarding concepts that simplicity is usually what Elena wants, because the product team can read the result without a briefing.
How sure each respondent was
PingPolls times every this-or-that pick, and Certiscore turns that time into a signal of how sure the respondent was. That means Elena can show the product team not only which concept won but whether people chose it quickly and confidently or after long hesitation. Certiscore works on preference ranking and sentiment cards, and it is one more quality check to read next to your other cleaning steps. It is not a bot detector and cannot tell whether a person or a program answered. Read how we analyze answers before you describe it to stakeholders.
Qualtrics approaches quality from the other direction. Its Response Quality feature checks completion rate and respondent speed, and it can flag bots and duplicates when paired with Fraud Detection. The guide on how to check survey data quality shows how Elena combines Certiscore with PingPolls' other checks, such as the relevancy check that flags open answers which do not fit their question.
From answers to a recommendation
Qualtrics Stats iQ is an add-on that describes variables, relates two variables to each other and runs regressions to show which drivers are most related to an outcome. That is the right toolkit when a study has to explain why, across many variables.
PingPolls does not run statistical tests. Its Ask AI panel lets the whole team ask the results questions in plain words, such as how many respondents picked each option or how two questions compare, and every count is computed from the database rather than estimated by the model. Open answers with AI analysis on are grouped into themes and read for emotion, and the form owner can export every response as CSV for deeper work in your own statistics tools.
When Qualtrics is the better choice
Qualtrics is the better choice for an enterprise research program. If your study needs MaxDiff, conjoint, quotas or branching on embedded data and location, Qualtrics has those built for exactly that purpose, and PingPolls does not.
It also fits better when the deliverable needs regression and driver analysis through Stats iQ, when you need one of its specialist question types such as Heat Map, Constant Sum or Tree Testing, or when your organisation prefers to arrange a license with Qualtrics directly, which is how its pricing page sets things up.
When PingPolls is the better choice
PingPolls fits better for the small, fast studies that fall between big programs. A product manager's question about three concepts can be a short pairwise ranking that respondents answer on their phones, with Certiscore adding how sure each pick was, and Elena can start it on the Free plan without a procurement step.
It also fits when the people answering are your own users, reached through a link, an embed in your app's web pages or a QR code, and when your team would rather ask the results questions in plain words than build a report.
Frequently asked questions
Can PingPolls replace our Qualtrics license?
For an enterprise research program, probably not, since PingPolls has no MaxDiff, conjoint, quotas or statistical tests. You can still use it alongside Qualtrics for quick preference studies.
Does PingPolls detect bots?
Certiscore does not. It is a confidence signal based on how long each pick took. PingPolls protects forms with a hidden honeypot field and a single-use token on every form, optional reCAPTCHA, and duplicate checks.
Can I export PingPolls data for my own analysis?
Yes. The form owner can export every response as CSV, with rankings written as label: score lines.
Do I need to talk to sales to start?
No. You can sign up and build on the Free plan, and the team owner can move to Pro or Teams from the billing page when you need more.
